Sports Excel contains 3 streams; open sports sessions, sports coaching and a basketball academy. All of these use sport to encourage young people to engage in positive activities, develop life skills and make healthy life choices. This project is lead by Jeronne Rudder and Sam Lloyd, both of whom are trained basketball coaches.

Basketball Academy

Taking inspiration from the film Coach Carter, the basketball academy seeks to encourage young people who are passionate about sport to develop this and also become passionate about other areas of their lives such as education and life choices. It is a closed project for up to 15 young males each year aged 13-19.

Throughout the year they will experience intensive coaching in basketball, one-to-one mentoring to challenge values and attitudes and join a local league to compete.
If you are interested in joining the academy, we seek to teach you what it means to play within a team and also to develop your character as a young person. Please contact Jeronne or Sam on 020 8863 2089.

Open Sports

The open sports sessions aim to create a positive, competitive atmosphere without attitudes of violence that are common within youth culture. The sessions are open to anyone aged 13- 19 within the Harrow community. They take place every Tuesdays and Thursdays (see above). We play a variety of different sports, mainly focussing on football . Depending on numbers, some weeks we organise tournaments. Through the differing sports we seek to inspire and empower young people to be the best that they can be in life.

Sports Coaching

Basketball coaching is offered to all the High Schools in Harrow through group workshops and one-to-one mentoring. Sessions are held both after school and during some lesson times and aim to support some of the most at risk young people in Harrow using sport as the catalyst to develop life skills, re-engage with education or employment and make positive life choices.
