We are also aware of the importance of Detached and enabling young people to get initial advice and support within their own environments. Our Tuesday-Friday nights detached outreach work on Wealdstone High Street and Rayners Lane Estate is a direct response to the levels of crime and anti-social behaviour in these areas. Many of the young people who loiter on Wealdstone High Street or Rayners Lane Estate do not access other services available to them. We have found that by engaging with these young people in their own environment enables respect to be

gained and relationships to be built. In turn this enables behaviours and attitudes of these young people to be challenged. Youth worker’s presence on Wealdstone High Street and Rayners Lane has already begun to create a less aggressive atmosphere in both areas. This detached and outreach work enables hard to reach young people to have their attitudes and life choices challenged in a positive way and to access to the Wednesday and Friday evening community groups and further mentoring and counselling support.
